As a student enthusiastic about computer science, I have seen girls in my grade struggle and feel inadequate in STEM. In the past, females were often underrepresented in STEM industries.
In a 2022 Survey from Stackoverflow, the world’s largest developer community, male developers took 91.88% of the survey, while female developers were 5.17%. This data showed gender discrimination implemented in the tech communities. As we live in a world where technology has become indispensable, STEM-related fields significantly impact our lives. The United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals decided to designate education equity and gender equality to ensure equal access for females in STEM fields and emphasize their representation’s significance.
I developed a coding app for participants, four female, and four male 9th Graders, to approach programming optimistically. Everyone can have equal opportunities to study and work in both male and female STEM fields. We should construct an open field for everyone, where all can have equal contributions and possibilities for our society.
